This multiplayer mini campaign is designed with a GM as the driving force to maintain engagement, and to supplement lack of voice lines. As GM, you will also be delivering the briefing and organising positions. It is also helpful if the GM also adopts a FAC role.

A recurring theme below is the lack of notes as I had never intended to release this campaign publicly. I had planned to run this privately assuming the GM role as a one-off, but circumstances prevented this. I apologise for the lack of support.

Running the campaign:
-If Pilot Operators experience sync issues, just advise them to return to the ‘select role’ menu, go back to spectators, ensure Pilot Commander’s aircraft is fully started and powered, then rejoin.

-It is suggested for the GM to assume, or nominate a player to act as FAC, preferably an Mi-8MTV2. Organisation of attack routes, or directing players is helpful in a mountain environment. BDA and adjust fire, calling out threats etc.

-It may be helpful to read the messages aloud to the rest of the players, or to reiterate pertinent points.

-End of each mission features a song (or two), usually RTB segment. This is a global sound and not volume adjustable. You may get music doubling if using SRS bot below. Due to this, clients may take a long time to fully load into the role selection screen. This is normal and allow it to complete.

-SRS supports a bot function to locally transmit an audio file. For atmosphere, you can consider using any 80-e playlist, download and compile a .mp3 file for a music radio. These files should be no more than 150MB in size, no longer than 2 hours 25 minutes duration and should be mono 441kHz.

Some suggested links below:

To activate the bot, use the following commands in Windows Powershell as admin.
Navigate to the SRS directory:
sl "<SRS Installation Directory>"

Run the script:
.\DCS-SR-ExternalAudio.exe --file="<MP3 file path>" --freqs=30.0 --modulations=FM --coalition=1 --port=5002 --name="Radio Zvezda" --volume=0.5

Use the command to start the bot. Do not touch the Powershell window afterwards as it will freeze and lag the bot and affect playback.

Volume controls for the relevant radio in the last page of every brief.

Briefing:
Included in the links below are several PowerPoint briefs. These cover topics including Hind handling tips, mountain gunnery and CRM. Most of these modules are Hind focused as it is the newest released module in this campaign. The mountainous terrain and high altitude present a difficulty obstacle to enjoyment and smooth experience, these modules seek to try and help players overcome this.

These modules are simplified for DCS context and should not be applied to real world flight. They also do not reflect any real world procedures.

Naturally these briefs are entirely optional, and unfortunately do not include any speaker notes. They should hopefully be fairly straight forward to understand.

The first mission’s brief is relatively sparse, but as the campaign progresses, so does complexity.
———————————————————————
Training Mission:
-The Platzcars are ~24m in length side view. Manual ranging actually requires a little bit aiming at the top of the target to hit.

-Pay particular attention to the aircraft’s flight path as weapons are released. A miss is likely (Auto ranging) if the aircraft is not flying and descending directly at the target. (Refer mountain gunnery slide <>)

-Practice running in certain directions as well as egressing predetermined escape routes, reporting as required

-Moving targets are invincible

-Reminder that once in a running mission, average tree height may be used as a known size for reticle

————————————————————————
Mission 1, Lashgar Gah raid
-Friendly squads are invincible
-Suggested landing site to the northwest just behind the crest of the hill, but any spot within a good distance of the AO is acceptable
-Early war setting, no MANPADs threat and no flares

————————————————————————
Mission 2, Herat bombing
-Decent xwind, be mindful on TO and LDG
-Quite difficult for MiG-21s due low ceiling and hot and high conditions, flap full landing is very difficult, consider flap half instead
-2 endings, good and bad

————————————————————————
Mission 3, Kunar mountain resupply
-Requires a fairly beefy computer for host due to great number of units (ED has improved performance since then but still)
-At least 1 Mi-8 should not equip external hardpoints (state as spawned)
-Map does not reflect waterways accurately; a dam is used as a navigation point, thence follow the river into the valley
-High winds aloft!! Avoid descent in tailwind
-Resupplying scout team, a full landing should not be attempted. Suggest a hover to the side of ridge and propping an MLG on the ground, but watch for dynamic rollover). Open ramp may also be possible, but I have not attempted this.
-Activation trigger may not work because am stoopid.

————————————————————————
Mission 4, Convoy escort
-Two routes available, the longer route (as planned) is a bit more scenic with an extra 10 min flight time
-Don’t bother trying to speed match the convoy, just perform circuits around
-Difficult environment to engage and coordinate
-Not expected for players to score many kills
-Chance will affect how the vehicles are damaged and what their subsequent max speed will be, this could extend mission time by up to 30 minutes
-There is a chance vehicles will be stuck on or under the bridge. Unfortunately this is a flaw in the AI and scraps the whole mission. Might as well RTB and consider it complete.
-Land in front of where the infantry is facing, although the trigger zone is fairly large

———————————————————————
Mission 5, Bagram security
-Recommend rolling TO, hover TO is difficult if not impossible
-Flares are required to be dispensed on appropriate side once formation established, reference screenshots
-Consider rotating teams so they may replenish flares
-Orbit to turn final at north end of the town
-ED has changed AI since conception of this mission, a/c now conduct right CCT instead of left. They also do a quick dive down through 500m and rapid decel 300-250 kmh^-1
-Definite MANPADs threat
-AAA can disable you in 1 hit

I’d love to hear your thoughts even if everything went smoothly

A rehash for the upcoming (teased, unconfirmed at time of writing) Afghanistan map is planned only for mission 5.

Thank you for your interest.
